About Me

Hey Everyone! My name is Desiree. I am merely 18 years old and have been around horses all my life, both big and small. I have lived in Ontario, Canada all my life and I am proud to be Canadian. I am a fan of country music but also enjoy those good old rock ‘n roll bands, due to some old friends. Alice Cooper is my favorite singer. I love to eat pizza and drink chocolate milk. My favorite colour is blue. I am a grade 11 student attending Our Lady Of The Lake Catholic Collage School. I work hard to stay on honor rolls.  I excel in English, Math, Sciences and Visual Arts. I used to show dairy cattle in my local 4H. My friends also play an important role outside of my horses.

Horses are my passion and my life is dedicated to them. My first horse was a QH mare named Julie. Julie taught my all about riding and horses. I spent most of my early childhood with this loving old mare. On December 22, 2002 my world was shattered when we had Julie unexpectedly humanly putdown. Julie was in her mid to late 30’s and had had a good long life with us. Losing Julie set me back, away from horses and every thing around me. I was missing a huge part of me. Needing horses in my life I turned to our family pet, Midnight. I had own Midnight all my life too and had worked with him a bit, but nothing compared to Julie. Midnight became the star of my life. I trained him to do many tricks, drive, jump and show.

In August 2004 I entered my first show ever. A local open fair show. One class, Showmanship, with Midnight. I placed 4th out of a large class. Midnight led to the purchase of Joy, my second show and my joining the MHCO in 2005. In 2005, my horse show of that year was a breed show, held at the CNE.

In early 2006, I purchased Nitro and gelded him. I purchased a trailer and was able to attend a total of 7 miniature horse shows. Four were MHCO point shows that gave me year end awards and Joy the title of 2006 MHCO Supreme Overall Halter Horse. The other 3 were AMHR Sanction shows that gave Nitro 10 HOF points and one Grand towards it. In 2006 I placed in the Champion and Reserves consistently in almost every show, really making my prints.

For 2007, I have plans for a few more shows, as well as the shows from previous years. The complete list can be found on my Calendar and Show page. Thanks to Lori Rafter, Nitro will be Driving in the ring this year. We are also purchasing a new cart and harness for our shows. I want to keep working at showing and training my horses and learn to do even better. This year I will be also show out side of Canada, which is another first for me. I will be attending the AMHR Area 2 show along with AMHR Nationals.

I also believe that the purchase of Donovan is another milestone for me. He will futher my showing skills but also start the world of breeding here. He is a stunning colt and I really like this boy. Thank you Carolyn and Kristin and Joe!

I feel that my next step with these small horses will be to enter the world of Shetlands. I want to start showing something with a lot of natural movement, a blast of colour and that leggy breath taking conformation that makes you take a second of third look at the amazing creature. I have just barely dipped my foot into the world of these heart warming midgets, and yet I’m hooked. Keep you eyes open for me, I hope to be with the miniatures and shetlands for the rest of my life.
